Key Income Tax Filing Dates for 2025
The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has announced important dates for the 2025 income tax filing season.
Taxpayers are advised to take note of the deadlines to ensure compliance and avoid penalties.
1. Auto-Assessments:
SARS will issue auto-assessments between 7 July and 20 July 2025. Taxpayers who are auto assessed should review their assessment carefully. If any changes must be made, they must be made before 20 October 2025.
2. Filing Season (Non-Auto-Assessed Taxpayers):
For individuals who are not auto-assessed, the filing season runs from 21 July to 20 October 2025. This applies primarily to taxpayers who need to manually file their returns via eFiling, the SARS MobiApp, or at a SARS branch (by appointment).
3. Provisional Taxpayers:
Individuals who submit provisional tax returns have from 21 July 2025 to 19 January 2026 to file. These taxpayers typically earn income other than a regular salary—such as from freelance work, investments, or rental properties.
To ensure timely and accurate filing, taxpayers are encouraged to gather all relevant documents ahead of the deadlines and consult with a registered tax practitioner if needed.
